“Don’t Give Up” The Diaz Brothers Inspire Kingsburg
“Our family had three pillars: God was first, family was second, and third was education. Sports wasn’t even in the top ten,” Danny Diaz.
“Cross Country is not about running the fastest, it is about who can endure the most pain,” David Diaz.
“The strength God has given me made my life so much better… I learned to persevere,” Damasio Diaz.
David, Danny, and Damasio Diaz are three champion runners who overcame great odds and won the first ever statewide cross country race in California in spite of working in the fields before and after school, lacking proper running gear, and having to improvise the terrain needed to train for cross country races.
The Constitutionalists for California (CFC) had the privilege of bringing this amazing story to Kingsburg. This was CFC’s first public presentation for 2021 and was held in Kingsburg’s Memorial Park..
May 28th Watch the Movie. CFC presented Disney’s film McFarland USA, the story of an unlikely group of seven runners, kids of poverty from the obscure town of McFarland and their coach who beat all the odds, winning the very first California State Cross Country Championship.
June 1st Meet the Men of McFarland, the Diaz Brothers. The actual runners in this David and Goliath story came to speak. David, Danny and Damasio Diaz told their personal stories of overcoming in life and in sports, inspiring the audience. With the warmth of friends, they shared their heartwarming life experiences of triumph over circumstances.
The June 1st Honor Hometown Heroes. CFC also honored The Kingsburg Elementary and High School Districts, The Police Department, The Fire Department and Paramedics, and Public Works Department for their service to the community.
CFC would like to thank Fernando Banuelos for helping arrange for the Diaz brothers to come to Kingsburg, Alyjha Tauscher for providing concessions on both nights, and thank you to all involved for making this experience happen.
