Janet M Kelly, Lori Fondon and Shirleen Jones
The KYBA 10U All Star Team from Kingsburg played in the Central California Cal Ripkin State Tournament in July. Quite an accomplishment! Easton Fondon is one of those players. His number #34 is the same as his favorite professional player Nolan Ryan. At the Tournament Easton was awarded “All Tournament” which is like the MVP for the entire state tournament. But Easton doesn’t take individual pride. His mother Lori explained, “He never played ball until we moved here a few years ago and now he lives and breathes baseball. He wouldn’t want to be recognized without giving credit to the entire team.”
Easton has made friends and learned the importance of “the team” through his experience. Lori continued, “He’s met some amazing friends and coaches and he speaks highly of his teammates and knows that victories are a team effort.”
How did Easton react to winning the All Tournament award? His answer, “I was surprised!”
Well done Easton, the KYBA (Kingsburg Youth Baseball Association), parents and coaches for not only the accomplishment but even more importantly, helping young athletes develop teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Special thanks to Shirleen Jones who brought this story to our attention, and is Easton’s “Adopted Family”
