Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he and other Democrats will not give up in trying to pass the Build Back Better plan. The New York lawmaker announced the move in a statement Monday, adding they will keep voting on the act until they “get something done” and have every senators vote on record.
Schumer notably expressed frustration and disappointment toward fellow Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) after the West Virginia lawmaker announced he would not vote to pass Joe Biden’s social spending package. Schumer also announced he will hold a virtual special caucus on December 21, which is the longest night of the year.
Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) praised Manchin for sinking the Build Back Better bill. In an interview Monday, the Republican said Manchin did the right thing by announcing his opposition to the bill, which she warned would of fundamentally transformed society.
